Kan-Quench

Conventional Quench Oils

Kan-Quench oils are conventional quenching oils that can be used for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Kan-Quench oils provide desired cooling rates for developing the maximum oil-quenched hardness in a full range of iron and steel alloys. These products provide uniform quench rates and clean surfaces in continuous or batch quench processes. Initial quench cooling is intensified for rapid heat removal during this critical period where transformation to soft structures must be avoided. Uniform cooling through the range of martensite formation insures that the higher hardnesses produced will not be accompanied by warping or cracking.

Kan-Quench oils can be applied for any heating medium where an oil quench is required.

Neat Cutting Fluids

Forsythe’s current line of neat cutting fluids are designed to provide superior finish and to enhance machinability for applications where mineral oils are preferred. Neat fluids are generally used in machining applications where cutting speeds are low. Heat generation becomes excessive at higher speeds, necessitating cooling with a water soluble product.

Forsythe’s product line can be categorized by product chemistry and by compatibility with metals being machined. Forsythe’s offerings include both chlorinated and non-chlorinated products. A full discussion of the attributes of Forsythe’s chlorinated products, as well as recommendations on how to choose between chlorinated and non-chlorinated products, please refer to Forsythe’s bulletin “Chlorinated Paraffins in Metalworking Fluids”.

Sulphur chemistry plays an important role in lubricant compatibility with the metallurgy of the work piece and the machine. Fluids containing active sulphur are especially effective in machining ferrous metals. Active sulphur additives are inappropriate for use with yellow metals since the sulphur will cause staining. For machining applications of yellow metals, or for use in machines with critical yellow metal components, Forsythe is pleased to offer non-staining products.

The Forsythe neat fluid product line covers most cutting and machining operations over a wide range of metals. In addition to these products, Forsythe offers some unique formulations tailored to the specific and unusual needs of some of our customers. In any case, a visit by one of our technical sales representatives or associates will ensure that we recommend the right formula for reliable and quality machining.

Kut-Sol 1GPT

Soluble Oil Metalworking Coolant

Kut Sol 1 GPT is a premium conventional soluble metalworking coolant, which is appropriate for most general-purpose machining operations. Kut Sol 1 GPT will give extended fluid life compared to normal soluble coolants because it fights bacteria, mold and yeast that contribute to fluid degradation.

Recommended Usues

Kut Sol 1 GPT is recommended for over 70% of all general machining applications.

Drilling & Reaming – 10:1 to 15:1
Milling & Boring – 10:1 to 15:1
Turning & Sawing – 15:1 to 30:1
Grinding – 30:1 to 50:1

For a more complete discussion of machining applications, please refer to Forsythe’s publication “Metalworking Coolants”.

Features & Benefits

  • Extra Emulsifier
  • Excellent hard water stability
  • Contains a broad-spectrum biocide, approved by Agriculture Canada for metalworking applications
  • High oil content and balanced formulation
  • Provides a longer lived more stable emulsion under adverse conditions. Resists demulsification and aids tramp oil separation
  • Can be applied in areas relying on hard water or well water
  • Extended fluid life through the control of bacteria, mold and yeast populations
  • Excellent corrosion protection for work pieces, tools and machine parts

Typical Properties

Kut Sol 1 GPT should be stored at room temperature. DO NOT FREEZE. Best results are obtained when mixed at room temperature (approximately 20EC). Kut Sol 1 GPT should always be added to water. This will ensure the ready formation of a stable emulsion of oil droplets suspended in water. If water is added to oil, an invert emulsion is formed. The resulting invert emulsion is incapable of providing the same lubricity, stability and corrosion protection as a properly mixed soluble coolant.

Mixing containers should be clean or cleaned with Forsythe System Cleaner. Tap water is usually adequate to mix with the soluble coolants. For water above 600 ppm CaCO3, consult your Forsythe Representative.

Machine sumps should be clean, deposit free and should not exhibit any bacterial growth. A suitable disinfecting and deposit removing cleaner, Forsythe System Cleaner, should be used prior to the installation of any new coolant. A contaminated sump will destroy the stability of any new coolant by providing a breeding ground for bacteria, yeast and fungi. Please refer to “Care and Maintenance of Soluble Metalworking Coolants” for a more detailed discussion of fluid maintenance.

Heavy duty applications include those with high metal removal rates and/or standard operations performed on metals with low A.I.S.I. machinability ratings (<60).

Drilling & Reaming – 5:1 to 15:1
Milling and Boring – 5:1 to 15:1
Turning and Sawing – 10:1 to 30:1
